How Zalye built a subscription business without a separate subscription system - and why the rest of the group is following

Group companies on their way over: SkyWork and SkyBook

The situation: Eight systems that promised to talk to each other

Jeppe Graversen is a trained carpenter and serial entrepreneur — today with his companies gathered under SkyVenture, including SkyWork and SkyEnergy. The latest addition is Zalye: an AI assistant that takes the paperwork off trade businesses, from the first enquiry to the invoice going out.

But the group's own back office looked exactly like the problem Zalye was built to solve.

"Suddenly we had 8-9 systems that were supposed to talk to each other. And when we looked at it, we were maybe using 5-10 percent of them — but paying full price. Where do you actually work? What do you use in each of these systems?"

The trigger: A subscription business needs more than accounting software

Zalye sells subscriptions where the price follows the customer's usage up and down. New territory for Jeppe — and normally it takes two systems: one for the accounts and one for the subscriptions, stitched together with yet another integration.

"We'd never run a subscription business before. And that's something a lot of the other systems aren't good at — you need accounting software, and then a subscription tool, and then they have to be connected all over again."

He wasn't going to build a new company on the setup he was leaving behind in the rest of the group. He was looking for a counterpart to Zalye's own vision — just for finance.

"We're never going to be accounting software. But with the vision LedgerBee laid out, I could see that if you do it right, AI can handle a lot of it."

The barrier: Choosing early is a bet on the team

The group came in as some of LedgerBee's first customers. That's not a decision you make on the feature list — you make it if you believe the team behind it can deliver.

"When you look at a system like this, you have to ask whether you believe the team behind it can deliver. I know now that LedgerBee can. The development from when we came in as some of the first until now has been an insane journey to watch."

And he was clear about the terms from day one:

"As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't have to be flawless, as long as things get fixed. If there's been something, we've reported it — and it's practically been fixed the next day."

The solution: The whole group's finances in one place

Today, Zalye runs both accounting and subscription management in LedgerBee — with no separate subscription system. The group's other companies have consolidated accounting, company cards, payroll and budgeting.

"Have we felt like we got lower quality by dropping specialist tools? No we haven't."

The results: The rest of the group is on its way

The proof isn't a quote — it's that more companies are moving over. SkyWork is on its way, and SkyBook is close. [check: can names and status be mentioned]

"Plenty of people talk about automation - but on an old foundation. LedgerBee is doing it on a new one. Accounting has to be automated. And everything to do with finance should live in one system."
